Postanka

A Comprehensive Range of Anchor Pedestals for use with horizontal flexible safety lines to EN 795 and BS7883:2005 Class ‘C’.

EN 795 requires that structural posts should be designed to withstand twice the force to which they will be subjected at fall arrest or restraint. Relevant calculations must be performed by a qualified engineer.

Samples of each type of pedestal have been tested by the National Engineering Laboratory to verify that the design formulae produce safe products which meet the relevant criteria of EN 795.

ALL POSTANKA structural pedestals are designed using formulae verified by a qualified engineer. Design calculations are available for all Postanka pedestals - usually at no additional charge.

POSTANKA - TYPE 1
A traditional ‘post and base plate’ assembly, which incorporates gussets to provide additional support against bending forces. May be bolted directly to concrete roofs using chemically bonded internally threaded inserts, or attached to steel elements of the main structure. This may be achieved using Beamclamps, or by using a second base plate and tie rods to ‘sandwich’ the roof member. (See Type 5)

POSTANKA - TYPE 5
Identical to type 1, but includes an additional base plate and four tie rods to enable assembly as shown.

POSTANKA - TYPE 4 (Patent No. 2291100)
Type 4 is a purpose made variation of type 3, to enable the pedestal to pass through roof cladding at a desired point not immediately above the roof joist or other member. It is particularly useful to ensure that the post penetrates the cladding at the top of a ‘crest’ on profile sheeting.

POSTANKA - TYPE 3 (Patent No. 2291100)
A ‘height adjustable’ pedestal designed to be attached to the side of the Universal Beam, Joist, Channel etc. The anchor design provides the added advantage of inexpensive installation costs. The use of a special, high grade steel for the pedestal provides a low weight unit.

Variations of the ‘Type 3’ Postanka are available to allow for attachment to R.S.J.’s, Universal Beams, Channels and Angles.

POSTANKA - TYPE 6
A traditional ‘post and base plate’ assembly, but WITHOUT supporting gussets. As the absence of gussets produces greater bending moments at the post/base plate junction, additional weld is necessary to provide adequate strength. This type of pedestal is
recommended where the clearance between the roof member and cladding is insufficient to accommodate gussets. May be bolted directly to concrete roofs using chemically bonded internally threaded inserts, or attached to steel elements of the main structure. This may be achieved using Beamclamps, or by using a second base plate and tie rods to ‘sandwich’ the roof member. (See Type 7)

POSTANKA - TYPE 7
Identical to type 6, but includes an additional base plate and four tie rods to enable assembly as shown.

POSTANKA - TYPE 8 (Registered Design Applied For)
‘Weldless’ pedestals are the latest in Dunn & Cowe’s comprehensive range of anchor pedestals for use with Class ‘C’ horizontal wire safety systems to EN 795 and BS7883:2005.

The mechanical assembly method of production enables a range of standard components to be used to assemble individual pedestals to meet each customers requirement.

In situations where restricted clearances make it difficult to install the pedestal from below the roof cladding, ‘weldless’ pedestals may be dismantled so that only the base is bolted to the roof structure. The pedestal may then be inserted from above, through a relatively small hole cut into the cladding.

The components are normally available from stock, thus providing a quick delivery time for the most popular variants. However, where pedestals are to be bolted to universal beams etc., using Beamclamps, it is necessary to drill the base plates to customers specific requirements. As this can be done only after receipt of order, delivery for this option will usually be in the region of 7 to 10 days, to
allow for drilling and subsequent galvanising.

CANTIANKA CANTILEVER SOCKETS (Registered Design Applied For) may be used as intermediate or extremity anchors for Class ‘C’ wire systems providing that:

  • The maximum line force at fall arrest does not exceed 10kN
  • There is a minimum embedment of 150mm
  • The centre line of the wire is no more than 120mm from the surface of the load bearing structure
  • The load bearing structure is capable of withstanding a 20kN pull - out force.

CANTIANKA CANTILEVER SOCKETS may be installed in either vertical or horizontal planes. An optional ‘testing bridge’ assembly is available when required (eg if there is cladding).
